Registered Financial PlannerThree years ago, I decided to start a career in the financial industry by being a financial advisor. The designation, no matter how prestigious it sounds, is nothing more than being a life insurance agent, sugar coated to have a more powerful appeal to the public.

Being an insurance agent is in fact a noble occupation. I have never been ashamed to tell people of what I do. However, I can’t hide the reality that we are treated more as sales people rather than such. Why else would we undergo countless trainings on the sales cycle, on how to prospect clients, counter objections and close sales.

No matter how noble the profession is, it has been tainted by the desire for profit. Insurance after all is still a business and business must make profit. Can the agents sincerely say they are in the business of insurance or are they more concerned with the insurance of their business? (more…)
